Adult Educator Competences in Lifelong Learning in the EU Membership Process of Turkey
Abstract
In order to harmonize with the globalization process experienced since the 1990s, Europe,
who entered into economical and social integration, adopted the main target of
‘Making the EU the most dynamic knowledge-based economy all over the world till the
year of 2020’ through the Maastricht Treaty 1992 and the Lisbon Strategy 2000 and gave
its weight to ‘education’ in achieving its goal. Aft er this phase, lifelong learning process
was launched, which embraces all levels of training and education and following the
Bologna Process 1999 and the Copenhagen Process 2002, ‘Th e European Qualifi cations
Framework for Lifelong Learning’ was put into practice in April 2008. With this study,
the increasing importance of adult education, which is a signifi cant component of lifelong
learning and accordingly proff esional competencies of adult educators who will
provide service in this fi eld during the aforementioned process, is being focused on.
Within the scope of the study, various studies on determination of European Level of
competency and Qualifi cations have also been performed to provide an international
equivalence of vocation, thus, it has been aimed to provide a kind of foresight for similar
potential studies in our country.
