The Effects of University Selection Examination on the Teaching Learning Processes of High School Physics

Abstract

It has been discussed that changing the system of university selection examination  from two phases to one phase has affected the teaching and learning process of the high
schools negatively. This study has planned to determine the effects of ÖSS on high school  physics education. The study was covered 22 physics teachers and 175 students from different  kinds of high schools in Erzurum and implemented at the 2000 years. Data were gathered by  using interviews with 22 teachers and 20 students selected by randomly and questionnaires  with the entire sample. In addition, an achievement test covered both the subject-situated and  not situated questions at the ÖSS were implemented to measure the students’ success in two cases.

Test results showed that there was a close relation between the students’ achievement on the questions, which are situated at ÖSS and unsuccessful at the questions, which are not situated at the ÖSS. Moreover, it was understood that some of the physics-3 subjects even not thought at high schools.
