The aim of this study is to determine reaching levels of students on 6th grade social studies course attainments through their opinions. The research is descriptive study in the survey model. The sample of the research was comprised of 278 students at 7th grade in 2009-2010 academic year. Data was collected with the questionnaire of 35 items which was developed by researchers and the research supported with the open-ended questions. As a result of research; it was determined that students had positive point of views towards the social studies course, they like the course and described it easy, funny and enjoyable and they thought that the course contributed them to being good citizens. Most of the students expressed that they largely reached the 6th grade attainments. However, according to the data obtained from students, it was found that they had difficulties about creating case-concept-generalization linkage, defining the geographical position of our country on the map, describing location and landforms impact on the climate, realize the interaction between of the first civilizations lived in Anatolia, suggest investment and marketing project taking into account Turkey’s geographical features, explaining our country’s relationship with other countries with the understanding of Atatürk’s foreign policy, general features of the first Turks states and first Muslim Turks states and the historical development of democracy.
