Abstract
Relations between political actors and voters who want to seize power increase the importance of political communication day by day. Due to the political nature of human beings, it has become necessary to examine the role of the human brain, which is the pusher of political behavior, in political communication. This situation pushes the political actors to search new researches in order to understand the expectations of the human being, which Aristotle defines as a “zoon political”, which means a human social and political entity. As a result of this research, the field of neuropolitics has emerged, which brings together political science and neuroscience. This study aims to determine the motivation and emotional interest of voters’ unconscious toward political leaders and their discourses by using neuroscience techniques. Electroencephalograph, photoplethysmography and galvanic skin response, which are among the neuroscience techniques, were used in the study that conducted with experimental method. The study was carried out with voters of Justice and Development Party, Republican People’s Party, Nationalist Movement Party, Peoples’ Democratic Party and The Good Party. The study tested “People’s political preferences are compatible with their biometric and neurometric signs.” and “Political factors affecting people can be inferred from biometric and neurometric data.” hypotheses. As a result of the study the first of these hypotheses is partially confirmed, while the second one is fully confirmed. The results of the study reveal that social structure and current conditions as well as the biological and psychological structure are determinants on political perception, attitude and behavior.
