COMPARING THE SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF WOODS COMMONLY USED IN THE WOOD AND DECORATION INDUSTRY

Abstract

The quality of a wooden product depends on the conformity of the first impression surface processes. It is like the quality of coating processes such as painting or varnishing, related to the surface smoothness. Applying these processes to the surface also increases both the economic value and the lifetime of the wooden product. The surface of a finished product should made smooth before any other surface processing. For these reasons, surface roughness of wood species is an important factor in the furniture and woodwork industries. For gathering the samples to compare the surface roughness in this study, the most common using woods in furniture and other wood works industries, obtained from some trees that have been grown in different regions such as [Oak (Quercus L), spruce (Picea), cypress (Cupressus.) and chestnut (Castanea sativa.)]. According to the results of the research; The smoothest surface obtained from the samples of cypress wood.
