Historical Change of Hammock Design

Abstract

This study was carried out on the historical change of the hammock and the types of hammocks used today. The hammock is originally based on the indigenous peoples living in America. When the origin of the word is examined, it is thought that it is derived from the word "purpose", which the European explorers encountered with the discovery of the American continent and which the local people gave to the beds they used by stretching them between the trees. The physical and spiritual aspects of the hammock, such as the fact that it does not come into contact with a hard floor and can swing slightly, have kept its original structure unchanged throughout history. In the study, it is stated how the hammock fulfills many functions such as hygiene, living in narrow spaces, safety, comfort, acceptance by all social classes, entertainment and rest over time. The feature of being used both indoors and outdoors, and in land and sea transportation is exemplified. In addition, it was mentioned that hammocks designed according to the percentile values of 95% and above from human anthropometric values can easily be inclusive of large masses. The types of hammocks are defined, it is stated that the variety can be classified according to many criteria such as the material used in its production, the place where it is used, the region where it is used, the construction of its carriers.

Hamak Tasarımının Tarihsel Değişimi

Abstract

Bu çalışma Hamağın tarihi değişimi ve günümüzde kullanılan hamakların çeşitleri üzerine gerçekleştirilmiştir. Hamak, köken olarak Amerika'da yaşayan yerli halklara dayandırılmaktadır. Kelime kökeni incelendiğinde, Amerika kıtasının keşfi ile Avrupalı kaşiflerin karşılaştığı ve yerli halkın ağaçlar arasına gererek kullandığı yataklara vermiş olduğu “amac” kelimesinden türediği düşülmektedir. Hamağın sert bir zeminle temas etmemesi, hafif sallanabilmesi gibi fiziksel ve ruhsal olarak insanı etkileyen yönleri tarih boyunca kaybolmadan ilk yapısını koruyarak değişe gelmesini sağlamıştır. Çalışmada, hamağın hijyen, dar hacimlerde yaşam, güvenlik, rahatlık, tüm sosyal sınıflar tarafından kabul görme, eğlence, dinlenme gibi birçok işlevi zaman içinde nasıl yerine getirdiği belirtilmiştir. Hem iç mekanlarda, hem dış mekanlarda, hem de kara ve deniz taşımalarında kullanılma özelliği örneklendirilmiştir. Ayrıca insana ait antropometrik değerlerden %95’lik ve üstü yüzdelik değerlere göre tasarlanan hamakların geniş kitleleri kolayca kapsayıcı olabileceğinden bahsedilmiştir. Hamakların çeşitleri tanımlanmış, çeşitliliğin üretiminde kullanılan malzeme, kullanıldığı mekan, kullanıldığı bölge, taşıyıcılarının konstrüksiyonu gibi birçok kritere göre sınıflandırılabileceği belirtilmiş, bununla birlikte yüzyıllardır farklı amaçlar için kullanılan hamağın ilk tasarımına ait özellikleri hala taşıyor olması ön plana çıkarılmıştır.
