AbstractLeishmania Antibody Levels in Different Age Groups in Mut County in Mersin Objective: The cause of leishmaniasis is a flagelled protozoon known as Leishmania. There are three clinical subtypes of leishmaniasis; visceral leishmaniasis, cutaneous leishmaniasis, and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis. The aim of this study was to detect cutaneous leishmaniasis cases in Mut which is a county of Mersin, to isolate Leishmania strains from lession specimens, and to detect Leishmania IgG antibodies and their titers using antigens prepared from the strains by Indirect Flourescent Antibody in different age groups. Method: In this study, we evaluated the serum IgG antibody levels of Leishmania of the healthy indivudials by Indirect Flourescence Antibody. The study group was composed of 358 people (185 male, 173 female). Results: The samples were collected randomly from the county of Mut. We detected IgG antibodies of Leishmania in five of the collected samples (1.4%). We also detected 1/32 titer of IgG antibody in four of the samples (1.11%) and 1/64 titer of IgG antibody level in one of the samples ( 0.28%). Conclusions: Detection and treatment of the patients, education and protective applications to the people living in endemic regions seems to be required in order to eradicate this low endemic disease.
