AbstractThe Investigation of IL-6, IL-2R and IGFBP-3 Levels in Coronary Artery Patients Objective: Today, atherosclerosis has significance in pathogenesis of coronary artery diseases that are the main cause of mortality and morbidity. The first step in the onset of atherosclerosis is endothelial dysfunction. Investigations on the underlying mechanisms of atherosclerotic plaque formation revealed that disease development period has complex mechanisms with distinct anti-inflammatory response beyond cholesterol and lipid accumulation in arterial walls. Various inflammation cells and growth factors were found in atherosclerotic plaques. Thus, it was aimed in this study to investigate whether a relationship exists among the levels of IL-6, IL 2R, IGFBP-3 and coronary artery disease. Method: Seventy patients with coronary artery disease (average age: 57.3±13 years) and sixty control (average age: 60.9±12 years) were included in our study. Fasting blood glucose and lipid profile were determined by enzymatic colorimetric method in Cobas 501 autoanalyzer. IL-6, IL-2R, IGFBP-3 levels were measured using electrochemiluminescence method with Immulite. Results: No relationship was found among IGFBP-3, IL-6 levels and coronary artery disease. IL-2R levels were determined increasing in the coronary artery disease group in comparison to control group (653.6±322.4 U/ml vs. 559.15±297.3 U/ml, p=0.04). Conclusion: It is considered that IL-2R levels can be used as a marker for the diagnosis and prognosis of coronary artery disease.
