Abstract Retrospective Evaluation of the Patients Diagnosed with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis During the Period of 2011-2013 in Kahramanmaras Province Aim: In this study, it was aimed to perform a retrospective evaluation on the 61 cutaneous leishmaniasis cases checked in to Teaching Hospital at Kahramanmaraş Sutcu Imam University, School of Medicine between July 2011-May 2013. Method: The microbiological diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis was established by showing the parasite in the smears obtained from the suspected skin lesions. Results: Out of 61 cases, 33 (54.1%) and 28 (45.9%) were female and male, respectively. Thirty (49.2%) of the cases were younger than 20 years of age. The highest rate of case reports (11 cases) belonged to the month of April. Most of the cutaneous leishmaniasis cases (54%) were the patients living in a refugee camp, particularly in children (32.7%). In particular, all the patients checked into our hospital and diagnosed with cutaneous leishmaniasis (30 cases) within the first 5 months of 2013 were refugees. Conclusion: The prevalence of cutaneous leishmaniasis was particularly higher among the children living under camp conditions. Increase in the prevalance of cutaenous leishmaniasis cases determined in the refugee camp near dowtown Kahramanmaraş is alarming. Thus, it requires taking immediate measures involving upgrades in sanitary condition such as disinfecting services in the campandits vicinity along with other health-related precautions.
