Abstract

Os trigonum, genellikle asemptomatik olan ve talusun posteriorunda yer alan aksesuar bir kemiktir. Yedi-on üç yaşları arasında kemikleşme merkezi olarak ortaya çıkar ve genellikle bir yıl içerisinde talus ile birleşir. Ancak bu birleşme nadiren olmaz ve semptomatik olduğunda ‘Os trigonum sendromu’ olarak tanımlanır. Os trigonum sendromu çocuklarda arka ayak ağrısı ile karakterize nadir görülen klinik bir durumdur. Ayağın plantar fleksiyonu ile birlikte zorlu aktiviteler yapan sporcularda ve balerinlerde daha sık görülür. Burada sağ ayak bileğinde ağrı ve şişlik şikayeti ile başvuran ve os trigonum sendromu tanısı alan adolesan bir hasta sunulmaktadır.

Rare cause of childhood foot pain: Os trigonum syndrome

Abstract

Os trigonum is an accessory bone that is usually asymptomatic and placed at the posterior of talus. It occurs as an ossification center between seven-thirteen years and usually joins with talus within a year. However, this combination does not occur rarely and it is defined as ‘Os trigonum syndrome’ when it is symptomatic. Os trigonum syndrome is a rare clinical condition characterized by posterior foot pain in children. It is more common in athletes who perform strenuous activities with plantar flexion of the foot and in ballerinas. Here, we presented an adolescent patient who presented with the complaint of pain and swelling in the right foot ankle and was diagnosed with os trigonum syndrome.
