INVESTIGATION OF MUSEUMS IN ANKARA IN TERMS OF THE EDUCATIONAL FUNCTION

Abstract

In 2007, International Council of Museums (ICOM) had updated the definition of museum as a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment. In this regard, it is also significant that museum has been shifting from only conservation an exhibition of items toward communication with audience through active engagement and education. With perceiving the museums as an environment for education, the terms of education in museums, museum environment, and museum educator have begun to use. Considering this shift, the present study focuses on museums in Ankara of which museums have been using their context for education. In the scope of the study, five museums in Ankara had been selected using purposeful sampling. To collect data from museums, semi-structured interview form and document analysis forms were developed. In the forms, the data were gathered under five titles: Museum Educator, Education/Program/ Activites, Sevice and Publicity, Cooperation and Support, and also Space. The result of the study showed that all museums have museum educators, two of whom have museum pedagogy background. Educators stated that they had felt more competent in the fields of museum and museum education; and also they had been planning and evaluating activites for the children from preschool to aged 17. Additionally, the study revealed that all museum are open for cooperation with experts and except for one museum, all have seperate and appropriate room for the education.

ANKARA’DAKİ MÜZELERİN EĞİTİM İŞLEVLERİ AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Uluslararası Müzeler Konseyi (ICOM), 2007 yılında yaptığı müze tanımıma göre; müzeler, kar amacı gütmeksizin toplumun gelişmesine hizmet eder, insanlığın ve çevresinin somut ve soyut mirasını eğitim, çalışma ve beğeni amaçları çerçevesinde toplar, muhafaza eder, araştırır, sergiler ve halkın mirası ile buluşmasına açık olur. Bu bağlamda, müzelerin eserlerin sergilendiği bir yer olmasının yanı sıra aktif ilişkilenme ve eğitim yoluyla ziyaretçisi ile iletişime geçen bir yer olmaya doğru değişim gösterdiği dikkati çekmektedir. Müzelerin eğitim ortamı olarak algılanması ile müzede eğitim, müzede eğitim yapılan ortam ve müze eğitimcisi gibi kavramlar sıklıkla kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu değişimi göz önünde bulundurarak bu çalışmada, Ankara’da bulunan ve mekanlarını eğitim ortamı olarak kullanan müzelere odaklanılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme kullanılmış, bu bağlamda Ankara kent merkezi ve ilçesi Beypazarı’nda aktif eğitim yapan beş müze seçilmiştir. Söz konusu müzelerin sunduğu eğitimlere dair bilgi toplayabilmek için yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları ile doküman analiz formları geliştirilmiştir. Formlarda; Müze Eğitimcisi, Eğitim/Program/Etkinlikler, Hizmet ve Tanıtım, İşbirliği ve Destek, Mekan olmak üzere belirlenen beş temel temaya yönelik sorulara yer verilmiştir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda, müzelerin hepsinde en az bir müze eğitimcisinin bulunduğu, müze eğitimcilerinin ikisinin “Müze Pedagojisi” alanında eğitim gördüğü belirlenmiştir. Müze eğitimcileri, müze ve müze eğitimi alanlarında kendilerini daha yetkin hissettiklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Müzelerde, küçük bir grubun veya müze eğitimcisinin okul öncesinden başlayıp 17 yaşa kadar olan çocuklar için etkinlikler geliştirdiği ve bu etkinliklerin değerlendirildiği saptanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında ele alınan bütün müzelerin, uzmanlarla işbirliğine açık olduğu ve bir müze hariç diğerlerinde eğitimler için ayrı ve uygun bir mekanın olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır
