USING SECOND LIFE MUSEUMS AS AN OPTION IN EDUCATION VIA MUSEUM

Abstract

Education via museum takes part in teaching programs as an indispensable part of education. However, time and space-related problems often do not allow for actual museum visits for educational purposes. The virtual environments offered by the computer-aided web technologies are considered as an important option to reach a museum anywhere in the world when actual museum visits cannot be done. This study focuses on how to benefit from the museum within the visual arts education program and the Second Life museum, one of the virtual environment museums in education. Screening model was used and the analysis was carried out by using random sampling. Museums were selected among the ones that are in Second Life virtual world. In the next stage, an application proposal for visual arts education was developed from the examined Second Life museums. As a result of the study,it was determined that there are virtual museums in Second life virtual world that can be used in education via museums. A new point of view is tried to be formed by the help of the developed application proposal. Suggestions depend on the idea that virtual museums can be used efficiently in visual art education
