INFLUENCE OF HISTOGRAPHY ON HISTORY EDUCATION IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE

Abstract

Historiography has influence on history education and the types of historiography have also influence on history education in terms of ideology, content and teaching methods. There are three different type of historiographies in the Ottoman Empire which are religious, dynasty and nationalist. The history of Islam had been given attention during the religious historiography period and creating an Ottoman identity by history education was the key aim of dynasty historiography view. Besides this, history education was under the influence of Turkism in the period of nationalist historiography period. The purpose of this paper is to examine to what extent the types of historiographies which are religious, dynasty and nationalist influenced on history education during the Ottoman Empire. With this in mind, the influence of historiographies on history education will be explained in terms of ideology, content and teaching methods.

Osmanlı Devletinde Tarih Yazımının Tarih Öğretimi Üzerine Etkileri

Öz

Tarih yazım şekilleri, tarih öğretimini etkileyen önemli unsurlardan birisidir. Bu çerçevede, tarih yazım anlayışlarının niteliği, tarihöğretiminin ideolojik, içerik ve öğretim yöntemi boyutunu doğrudanetkilemektedir. Osmanlı dönemi tarih yazımı anlayışları incelendiğizaman, bunların Ümmetçi, Hanedan ve Milliyetçi tarih yazım şekilleriolduğu görülür. Bu üç tarih yazım şekli, Osmanlı’da tarih öğretimianlayışının gelişiminde önemli rol oynamıştır. Ümmetçi anlayışınhakim olduğu dönemde İslam tarihinin, Hanedan dönemindeOsmanlılık fikrinin ve Milliyetçi dönemde de Türklüğün ön plana çıkarıldığı görülmektedirBu çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı dönemi tarih yazım şekilleri olan ümmetçi, hanedan ve milliyetçi tarih yazım anlayışlarının, bu dönem tarih öğretimini nasıl etkilediğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu çerçevede her bir tarih yazım anlayışının, ideolojik, içerik ve öğretim yöntemleri açı- sından tarih öğretime etkileri açıklanacaktır.
