THE IMPORTANCE AND BENEFITS OF READING ALOUD IN ELEMANTARY EDUCATION

Abstract

There are two kinds of reading are teached to the students on primer school level.These are silent reading and oral reading .In the historical background, principally oral reading had been paid the attention and then the silent reading.But on these days oral reading again comes into question.According to present day researches, oral reading is not a waste of time, on the contrary it is a gain of time. In the constructivist approach, for active learning, oral reading of the students is necessary.Oral reading is very important for the language, mental and social development of the primery school students.It makes easier fluent reading and recognising the words during the primary school education.Oral reading is a language lesson.It provides development on listening, spaking, reading, writing, visual reading and presentation skills of the students.In addition, ıt helps development of paying attention, understanding, oral thinking of the students.So students become sure of themselves. Oral reading is also a tool for the communication and interaction.Both the emotions,thougths in the text are learned and transfered to the others.Therefore the teachers should attach the importance to the oral reading and motivate the students.
