MOBBING AND ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: A RESEARCH ON HEALTH EMPLOYEES
Abstract
Mobbing, which affects to people in workplaces and organizations adversely, and reduces organizational commitment of people, and moreover causes to leave the organization, is seen between health employees frequently. In this study, organizational commitment and mobbing were investigated whether differentiation among the health employees according to socio-demographic characteristics of health employees, and investigated whether a relationship between organizational commitment and mobbing. To this purpose, two scales were used. One of them is scale of mobbing, developed by Leymann, and other is scale of organizational commitment, developed by Meyer and Allen. The questionnaire was applied to 481 medical employees who have been working in the center of Sakarya. According to the findings of the study, 5.2% health employees are exposure to mobbing. Affective commitment's levels and normative commitment's levels of health employees are higher; although, continuance commitment's levels of health employees are lower. Mostly, health employees are exposure to mobbing by hospital administrators and their first-degree managers. Health employees have stated that if they had exposure behavior of mobbing they complained written and oral, and they tried to solve the problem by talking to person who has done behavior. However approximately one-third of employees said that if they had exposure to behavior of mobbing they didn’t do an active behavior. There is a significant opposite correlation statistically between mobbing and organizational commitment. Therefore, the increase in mobbing behavior is adversely affected to organizational commitment. The result of mobbing, is doing to goal of browbeat employees, especially adversely affect employees’ affective commitment's levels and normative commitment's levels. When mobbing increases, loyalty will decrease. Reduction of mobbing, and increase of organizational commitment are important to create an appropriate organizational climate
