THE CHANGING OF THE PARENTS’ THINKING STRUCTURE ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF VISUAL ART TECHNIQUES IN SPECIAL EDUCATION PERIOD

Abstract

In the research evaluated important points, before and after the visual arts techniques which realized with the students, according to the changing of their parents’ thinking structure about the importance of the visual art techniques in special education period. The universe of the research is 19 disabled students’ parents whose children took special education in a private rehabilitation centre in Antalya-Turkey between 01 March 2007 and 29 May 2009 and these students took visual arts education lesson as individually and in group alongside their special education period by the researcher. In the embrace of the research was used an evaluation form as the pre-test and the post-test which improved according to the experts’ opinions. The evaluation form which used as a pre-test and post-test was delivered to the parents by hand. The data that obtained by means of the evaluation form was transferred to the SPSS for Package Programme and was used frequency technique for the definitive statistical analyse to the transferred data. Frequency technique that used for the definitive statistical analyse was applied each matter of the research separately and was used to create the statistical chart which about the pre-test and the post-test. At the end of the research, it was observed as a result that the parents were thinking about the importance of the visual art techniques in special education period was important (79,0 %) at the beginning from the point of view “improvement of hand skill”, “contribute to mental and physical development”, “obtain to self-confidence”, “contribute to become socialized”, then (89,5 %) changed to “contribute to mental and physical development”, “obtain to selfconfidence”, “contribute to become socialized”, “contribute to happiness”, “ensure to successful” and “acquire to independence life skills”; the parents were thinking about the importance of the visual art techniques in special education period was important at the beginning from the point of view of “improvement of hand skill”, “being relaxative” and “improvement of concentration”; but was not important from the point of view of “improvement of hand-eye-brain coordination”, “ensure to successful” and “acquire to independence life skills”, then changed to that was important from the point of view of “improvement of hand-eye-brain coordination”, “ensure to successful” and “acquire to independence life skills”; but was not important from the point of view of “improvement of hand skill”, “being relaxative” and “improvement of concentration”. Also, at the end of the research, suggestions based on the results of the study were stated regarding application and further studies.
