GYUMRI NEGOTIATIONS (26 November - 2 December 1920) DURING TURKISH – ARMENIAN RELATIONS

Abstract

After the East Operation which was started end of 1920s, Armenian Goverment had to sue for peace by reason of defeated Armenian forces. Negotiations were made in Gyumri between 26 November 1920 and 2 December 1920 in order to get through the war and allocate the peace by between two countries. It was really significant development for Turkey that Sevres Treaty was refused by Armenian Committe during the negotiations. In the course of negotiations Turkish Committee asserted circumstances which secured the east borders of Turkey. On the other hand the Armenian Committee had some demands, according to them; some regions which had the majority of Muslim populations would be given to Armenia, weapon which had to be delivered in accordance with terms of agreement by Armenian was not asked and the existence of Armenian army was not decreased. However these demands were not accepted by the Turkish Committee
