A STUDY ON “AL-MUNABBIHAT” ATTRİBUTED TO IBN HAJAR AL-ASKALANİ

Abstract

It is one of the most important problems we have encountered that written books are associated to a writer and get published to be presented to the scientific world without investigating, studying, comparing with the author. One of these examples is the attribution of al-Munebbihat to Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (d. 852/1449) who was one of the most prominent hadith scholar of 9th century and commentator of Buhârī's al-Jamiūs al-Sahīh. This work, which has been published “authored” by Ibn Hajer al-Asqalani by many publishing houses in Turkey with various translations, quoted by various prints as if it belongs to Ibn Hajar, has been used as one of the main hadith sources of madrasas. In this study, this book is introduced by the way of its various commentators and works on it, and the association to the writer is examined. The second important problem besides the problem of the attribution of al-Munebbihat is the value of the hadith in the work. 51 of the 221 narrations in the work are the hadith that are attributed to Prophet Mohammad. In this research these hadiths are investigated in terms of their soundness
