Abstract

Barack Obama, who won the Presidential election in November 2008 and became the 44thPresident of the United States in 2009, was an important source of hope for both the US and the international community. Obama, who wanted to restore the US image, which was shaken by mistakes made during the George W. Bush era, tried to develop a new foreign policy by using the soft power factor of the USA. Obama, who has recognized that it is costly to intervene in international crises alone, has wanted his allies to take responsibility for these periods. For this, Obama has tried to develop his relations with his allies. In this context, he has improved relations with the EU. But relations between the two sides, both the US and the EU, due to the different policies, have not achieved the desired success

Barack Obama Dönemi Avrupa Birliği-ABD İlişkileri

Abstract

Kasım 2008’de yapılan Başkanlık seçimini kazanarak 2009’da ABD’nin 44. Başkanı olan Barack Obama, hem ABD hem de uluslararası toplum için önemli bir umut kaynağı olmuştur. George W. Bush döneminde yapılan hatalar yüzünden sarsılan ABD imajını düzeltmek isteyen Obama, ABD’nin yumuşak güç unsurunu kullanarak yeni bir dış politika geliştirmeye çalışmıştır. Uluslararası krizlere tek başına müdahale etmenin maliyetli olduğunu anlayan Obama, bu nedenle müttefiklerinin de bu dönemde sorumluluk üstlenmesini istemiştir. Bunun için Obama, müttefikleriyle ilişkilerini geliştirmeye çalışmıştır. Bu kapsamda AB ile ilişkilerini geliştirmiştir. Ancak hem ABD’nin gerekse AB’nin farklı politikaları nedeniyle iki taraf arasındaki ilişkiler istenen başarıya ulaşamamıştır
