Asset Valuation in the Airline Sector: A Case Study on Aircraft Valuation

Abstract

The valuation of aircraft is one of the important issues in the airline industry, which is a dynamic sector. The valuation of an aircraft, which is an aircraft, is under the influence of technical, economic, political, and environmental factors. The Covid-19 global epidemic, which affected and continues to affect the whole world last year, has affected the entire airline industry; continues to adversely affect aircraft production, sales, and valuation. In this study, the annual income and expenses of narrow-body B737-700 produced by Boeing, wide-body B767-300 ER and narrow-body A320-200, and wide-body A330-200 aircraft manufactured by Airbus, which are one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturer companies, are estimated and various assumptions and assumptions are made. Theoretical values (Net Present Values) were determined under the 1%discount rate and the deviation between the minimum prices and the theoretical values was between 10.24%and 17.68%. In this respect, similar results were obtained from the studies in the literature. It is considered that this deviation may change under various factors. In the study, "Theoretical Value" calculations were also made according to 2%, 5%, and 10%discount rates in order to adjust cash flows according to risk, and it was determined that the present or theoretical value of net cash flows formed in 30 years of economic life decreases as the discount rate increases. However, bringing a practical solution in line with the aircraft valuation literature makes the study important.

Hava Yolu Sektöründe Varlık Değerlemesi: Hava Aracı Değerlemesi Üzerine Bir Örnek Olay İncelemesi

Abstract

 Dinamik bir sektör olan hava yolu sektöründe hava aracının değerlemesi önemli konulardan birisidir. Bir hava aracı olan uçağın değerlemesi teknik, ekonomik, siyasi, ve çevresel faktörlerin etkisi altındadır. Geçtiğimiz yılbaşında tüm dünyayı etkileyen ve etkilemeye devam eden Covid-19 küresel salgını tüm hava yolu sektörünü; uçak üretimini, satışını ve değerlemesini olumsuz olarak etkilemeye devam etmektedir. Yapılan bu çalışmada dünyada önemli uçak üreticisi şirketlerden Boeing tarafından üretilen dar gövdeli B737-700, geniş gövdeli B767-300 ER ve Airbus tarafından üretilen dar gövdeli A320-200, geniş gövdeli A330-200 uçaklarının yıllık gelir ve giderleri tahmini olarak hesaplanarak, çeşitli varsayımlar ve %1 iskonto oranı altında teorik değerleri (Net Bugünkü Değerleri) tespit edilmiş ve minimum fiyatlarıyla teorik değerleri arasında %10,24 ile %17,68 bandında sapma bulunmuştur. Bu yönüyle literatürde yer alan çalışmalara benzer sonuç elde edilmiştir. Bu sapmanın çeşitli faktörler altında değişebileceği değerlendirilmektedir. Çalışmada nakit akışlarının riske göre düzeltilmesi amacıyla ayrıca %2, %5 ve %10 iskonto oranlarına göre de “Teorik Değer” hesaplamaları yapılmış, 30 yıllık ekonomik ömürde oluşan net nakit akımlarının bugünkü veya teorik değeri iskonto oranı arttıkça azaldığı belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte çalışma ile uçak değerlemesi literatürüne uyumlu olarak pratik bir çözüm getirilmesi çalışmayı önemli kılmaktadır.
