Abstract

Development of Sustainability Leadership at Schools Scale (SLSS)

Year 2021, Volume: 10 Issue: 2, 851 - 862, 19.04.2021

Abstract

This study aims to develop an appropriate scale to determine the sustainable leadership behaviors of school principals based on teachers' opinions. In this context, items that can explain sustainable leadership were formed and evaluated by field experts based on the literature. As a result of the evaluation, the draft scale consisting of 26 items was applied to 183 teachers in Yozgat. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted to test the validity of the scale. According to the EFA, it was determined that the “Scale of Sustainable Leadership in Schools” (SSLS) has a four-factor structure. SSLS explained 82% of the variance. In the second stage of the research, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted with the data collected from 385 teachers. CFA revealed that fit values of the scale indicate "perfect" fit. In addition, it was determined that the item discrimination level of the scale was high. Cronbach‟s Alpha internal consistency coefficient expressed high reliability. According to the obtained findings, it was concluded that SSLS is a valid and reliable measurement tool that would help to reveal the sustainable leadership behaviors of school principals based on teachers' perception.
