The value acquisition process that started in the family continues with the school. Students and their parents need to being conscious about value education to keep effective value education in school. The value of responsibility is to be aware of one’s behavior and undertake the results. The main purpose of this study is to reveal primary school students and their parents’ perceptions regarding the value of responsibility. In line with this general purpose “What do you understand when it comes to responsibility?”, “What features does it have responsible people?”, “Do you see yourself as responsible?”, and “What do you feel when you fulfill and do not fulfill your responsibilities?” were sought answer to the questions. Phenomenology, one of the qualitative researches patterns, was used in the research. The study group of the study was formed by the voluntary participation of 20 volunteer students studying in the second grade in Bayburt in the spring term of 2019-2020 and the parents of these 20 students. Semi – structured interview form was used to collected the data. Descriptive analysis was used in the analiysis of the data. When the findings of the research are evaluated, the value of responsibility in parents is determined in four themes: responsibility towards the family, responsibility of citizenship, responsibility towards the society and duty awareness. Perceptions of responsibility in students is determined in four themes: responsibility towards family, academic responsibility, responsibility towards environmental and duty awareness.
