Merhamet ile Mutluluk Arasındaki İlişkide Katkının Aracı Rolü ve Yetişkin Bireylerin Görüşleri: Karma Model

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine feelings of compassion, contribution and happiness in adults. Using a mixed model and sequential explanatory design, 1018 adults from Turkey participated quantitatively and 17 adults participated qualitatively through convenience sampling. In the quantitative part, the 3-Dimensional Contribution Scale, Oxford Happiness Scale and Compassion Scale were used; in the qualitative part, a personal information form and a semi-structured interview form consisting of 7 open-ended questions were used. Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS 21 and AMOS Graphics, while qualitative data were subjected to content analysis. Quantitative results showed that compassion positively predicted contribution and contribution positively predicted happiness. Contribution had a partial mediating role in the relationship between compassion and happiness. Content analysis of qualitative data revealed three themes: compassion, contribution and positive impact, and sub-themes under these themes. Participants stated that they were able to show compassion to others with positive feelings, thoughts and attitudes. They also believed that their experiences of helping others contributed to them and that they were able to be useful to society and their families. It was concluded that volunteering time and making positive contributions created positive emotions in them. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were presented.
