Manuscripts to be published in the journal must be written in accordance with the writing rules and examples given below. For situations outside the given examples, the principles specified in the book titled “Publication Manual of American Psychological Association (6th Edition) 2010” published by the American Psychological Association (APA style) must be taken into account (For examples, http://library.nmu.edu/guides/userguides/style_apa.htm web address can be consulted).

Manuscripts must consist of the following sections in order: abstract, abstract, main text, appendices (if any), and extended abstract.

Title Page

The title page must include the Turkish and English titles, author name(s), institution name(s), Turkish and English abstracts, and keywords. The title must consist of a maximum of 12 words, in 11 pt, all uppercase and bold letters, and aligned to the center of the line. The title must best reflect the content of the study. Abbreviations must not be used in the title.

The names and surnames of the authors must be below the title line, centered, and in bold characters. The first letter of the name must be uppercase and the other letters lowercase; the entire surname must be written in uppercase letters. The institution where the authors work must be written below their names. In multi-author articles, author-institution names must be written one below the other.

Turkish and English abstracts and keywords must be written in 10 pt and italic letters, with single line spacing. The abstract must be 150-200 words in length. The scope, purpose, method, and conclusion of the study must be briefly given in the abstract. 3-5 keywords must be written after the abstract.

Turkish/English Main Text

Studies must include the introduction, method, findings, and discussion sections in order.

  1. In the Introduction section, basic concepts, theoretical development, and approaches in contemporary literature related to the conducted study, as well as the problem statement, purpose, hypotheses, assumptions, limitations, etc., within the research must be included. This section must start on a new page.
  2. In the Method section, the population, sample, data collection tools, data analysis techniques, procedural steps, etc., used in the research must be explained.
  3. In the Findings section, the results reached regarding the research problem/hypotheses must be given.
  4. In the Discussion section, the research findings must be explained by comparing them with the results of previous research, discussed, interpreted, and recommendations based on the result(s) must be expressed.

Tables, graphs, and figures in the text must be numbered sequentially, and their titles must be written above them. No vertical lines should be used in tables; only 3 horizontal lines must be used, two at the top and one at the bottom.

Tables must not exceed page boundaries. In large tables, the font size can be reduced, or the page layout can be made landscape, if necessary.

References

References must be formatted in accordance with the examples given under the heading “Formatting of References.”

Appendices (If Any)

Scales, documents, pictures, etc., which have an important function in understanding the research, can be given as appendices. Appendices must be numbered as Appendix-1, Appendix-2, etc., and cited within the text using these numbers.

Extended Abstract

An English Extended Abstract must be added after the References section of articles written in Turkish. (Turkish extended abstracts will not be added to articles written in English). The extended abstract must be between 750-1000 words. The formal writing specifications of the journal valid for the main text also apply to the extended abstract. The Extended Abstract must include the subheadings “Introduction”, “Method”, and “Result and Discussion”. The English proofreading of the extended abstract is the author's responsibility. Articles whose abstracts are inadequate in terms of language will not be published until they are corrected.

Headings and Subheadings in the Text

Headings and subheadings within the text must be organized as follows:

  • First-Level Subheading: The first letter uppercase, other letters lowercase, all in bold letters, starting from the beginning of the paragraph.
    • Example: Giriş
  • Second-Level Subheading: Only the first letters uppercase and all in bold and italic letters.
    • Example: Çalışmanın Amacı
  • Third-Level Subheading: Only the first letters uppercase and all in italic letters.
    • Example: Türkçede Kişi Zamirleri

One line of space must be left before all headings.

Citations Within the Text

  • When citing sources within the text, the surname(s) of the author(s), publication year of the relevant work, and page number are used. A comma (,) is placed between the author's surname and the publication year, followed by a colon and the page number.
    • Example: A movement made during speech can increase the effect of the message in one society while creating the exact opposite effect in another (Baltaş, 1998: 46).
  • If a passage from the cited work is quoted directly, this passage must be shown using quotation marks (“ ”), and the page number where the quotation was taken must also be written by placing a colon (:) after the publication year of the cited work. If the author's name is mentioned as part of the sentence, the publication year and page number must appear in parentheses right next to the name.
    • Example: According to Korkmaz (2007: 68), grammar is “the branch of knowledge that teaches the sound, form, and sentence structure of Turkish and the semantic relations between sentence elements in schools at various levels.”
  • If the number of authors is between 3 and 5, author surnames are given in the order they appear in the work for the first citation. In subsequent citations to the same work, only the surname of the first author is written, and the abbreviation “ve diğer.” in Turkish papers, and “et al.” in English papers is used.
    • Example: In the 1936 Primary School Turkish Curriculum, it was accepted that literacy teaching should start with simple words (Çelenk, Tertemiz, and Kalaycı, 2000).

For works with more than 5 authors, starting from the first citation, the abbreviation “ve diğer.” in Turkish papers, and “et al.” in English papers is used along with the first author's surname.

  • Example: Thus, the narrated information is understood much more easily and made permanent (Korkmaz et al., 1995).

If multiple sources are cited for the same information, the sources must be given at the end of the sentence in parentheses, separated by semicolons, in chronological order.

  • Example: There are also studies stating that school administrators are exposed to more stress compared to teachers (Savery, 1993; Feitler, 1996).
  • If the cited work was prepared on behalf of an institution, the full name of the institution along with its abbreviation, publication year, and page number are given in the first citation. In subsequent citations, only the abbreviation of the institution is used instead of its full name.
    • Example: (Türk Dil Kurumu [TDK], 1997), (TDK, 1997)
  • If two separate works of an author belonging to the same year are cited, a letter is added to the years of these publications.
    • Example: (Aydın, 1998a), (Aydın, 1998b)
  • When citing a source that cannot be accessed directly within the text, both this source and the source from which the quotation was taken must be specified as follows.
    • Example: ... (Karahan, 1985'ten aktaran Gündüz, 1998)
