Türkçe Ders Kitaplarındaki “Hak ve Özgürlükler” Temasının Demokrasi Eğitimi Açısından İncelenmesi/ Investıgatıng The Theme of “Rıghts And Freedom” In Turkısh Course Books In Terms Of Democracy Educatıon

Abstract

It has been emphasized in one of the subjects at literature that education of democracy is not given only in knowledge of citizenship lessons also be given by integrating in all courses in the curriculum. The present study aims to investigate the theme of "rights and freedoms" in Turkish course books in terms of democracy education. To collect data, the technique of content analysis was used. By analyzing the contents of the texts related with the theme of "rights and freedoms", democratic values; basic skills related with democracy education; rights, freedom and democracy have been found in the texts. Some determinations were made based on these results about processing of these concepts. The results of the study indicated that the activities related with the theme of "Rights and Liberties" involved exercises in relation with democracy education rather than the exercises in relation with language skills and text analysis. Another finding of the study revealed that there was only one sub discipline field gain in relation with the theme of “Rights and Freedom”. To give more sub disipline gain in Turkish lessons books seems importent  for gaining awareness of “democracy education” in second grade Turkish lessons.
