Women, the "Other" of Football, Write Fotonovela, the "Other" of Photography

Abstract

This study addresses the fotonovela method as a way of exposing the experiences of women in gendered football field. In this paper, the fotonovela development process formed by the participation of women football players who are historically located at the periphery of football is focused on. Fotonovela is a convenient research tool that promises performative possibilities for visually and textually uncovering the embedded meanings and feelings,. Narratives written by women based on their experiences are seen as rich sources of gathering information related to the research. This study addressing the fotonovela development process also coincides the narrative of the researcher’s experiences as the methodological process itself is a self-reflexive process through which knowledge is produced.

FUTBOLUN “ÖTEKİSİ” KADINLAR, FOTOĞRAFIN “ÖTEKİSİ” FOTOROMANI YAZIYOR

Abstract

Bu çalışma, cinsiyetlendirilmiş bir alan olan futboldaki kadınların deneyimlerini açığa çıkarmanın bir yolu olarak fotoroman yöntemini ele almaktadır. Yazıda, tarihsel olarak  futbolun periferinde yer alan kadın futbolcuların katılımları ile şekillenen fotoroman geliştirme sürecine odaklanılmaktadır. Fotoroman gömülü anlamları ve duyguları görsel ve metinsel yolla açığa çıkartabilecek performatif olanaklara sahip uygun bir araştırma aracıdır. Kadınların kendi deneyimlerinden yola çıkarak yazdıkları hikayeler araştırma için zengin bilgi kaynağı olarak görülmektedir. Fotoroman geliştirme sürecini ele alan bu çalışma, yöntemsel sürecin bilginin üretildiği düşünümsel bir süreç olması nedeniyle, aynı zamanda araştırmacının deneyimlerinin anlatısıdır.
