BABAM, BEN VE KUZEY: HEGEMONİK ERKEKLİĞE HAYVAN-İNSAN İLİŞKİSİ PERSPEKTİFİNDEN BAKMAK

Abstract

Baskın biçimde otobiyografik anlatıyla şekillenmiş bu çalışma, hayvanlarla ilişkinin erkeklikler üzerindeki dönüştürücülüğüne odaklanmaktadır. Hayatımıza 2012 yılında giren sarman Kuzey’in, benim ve babamın erkekliğinde yol açtığı değişimleri önce kendi hikayemi, ardından babamın hikayesini benim gözümden yorumlayarak aktardım.

MY FATHER, ME AND KUZEY: LOOKING AT HEGEMONIC MASCULINITY FROM THE ANIMAL-HUMAN RELATIONSHIP PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This article predominantly shaped by autobiographical narrative focuses on the transformative effect of the relationship with animals on masculinities. I explained this effect that the orange tabby Kuzey, who comes into our lives in 2012, had upon in my masculinity and my father's by first interpreting my own story and then my father's story. The most striking part for me was the interview that I heard from my father's own words his relationship with Kuzey and other animals and the changes that this relationship caused or his process making no headway. In my research, I questioned whether my father, who was perceived by me as the domestic representative of the patriarchal regime for years, had a change in his relationship with animals that interrupted his connection with hegemonic masculinity. As a result, although I am pleased that my father has found new opportunities for expression in his masculinity, I have come to the conclusion that the process that I associate with transforming into hybrid hegemonic masculinity did not bring the desired change in dominant gender roles.
