Abstract

Aim: This study investigated mask use, preferred mask types, and usage patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic, and examined their relationship with sociodemographic factors, chronic disease history, and vaccination status. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 463 individuals using direct observation and a questionnaire. Results: Appropriate mask use was observed in 82.07% of participants, with surgical masks being the most common type (69.76%). Cloth/fabric mask use was significantly higher among unvaccinated individuals. Logistic regression revealed that age significantly affected proper mask use, while chronic disease and vaccination status influenced mask type preference. Conclusion: Mask use behaviors are shaped not only by individual characteristics but also by health literacy, pandemic experience, and public policies.

Abstract

Amaç: COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinde bireylerin maske kullanım düzeyi, tercih ettikleri maske türü ve kullanım biçimleri incelenmiş; bu davranışların sosyodemografik değişkenler, kronik hastalık öyküsü ve aşılanma durumu ile ilişkisinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Kesitsel tanımlayıcı tasarıma sahip çalışmada, toplam 463 bireyden doğrudan gözlem ve anket yoluyla veri toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Katılımcıların %82,07’sinin maskeyi uygun biçimde kullandığı, en sık tercih edilen maske türünün cerrahi maske (%69,76) olduğu belirlenmiştir. Aşı olmayan bireylerin bez/kumaş maske kullanma oranı anlamlı derecede yüksek saptanmıştır. Lojistik regresyon analizinde yaşın uygun maske kullanımı üzerinde, kronik hastalık ve aşılanma durumunun ise maske tipi tercihinde anlamlı etkisi olduğu gösterilmiştir. Sonuç: Bulgular, bireylerin maske kullanım davranışlarının sadece kişisel özelliklerle değil, aynı zamanda sağlık okuryazarlığı, pandemi deneyimi ve kamu politikalarıyla da şekillendiğini göstermektedir.
