Abstract

In this study it was examined if there is a significant difference in high school teachers’ burnoutlevels according to some characteristics of teacher gender, age, marital statu, having children, education level, branch, years spending in tecahing,the way of chosing occupation, thinking of leavingthe job, salary, being happy with salary or not andattandence of soscial aktivity and learned resourcefulness levels. During 2000-2001 academic year,292 female and 98 male high school teachers weretaken as a sample in the study. In order to examine the teachers’ burnout levels, “Potter BurnoutInventory” was utilized. A “Personel InformationForm” was utilized in order to determine the independent variables. For learned resourcefulness levels, “Rosenbaum Learned Resourcefulness Inventory” was utilized. To test statistical significances,“two way ANOVA” has been used for multiplegroup analyses and if statisticaly significant differences were found between groups then Tukey testhas been used to find out which group causes thedifference. The results showed that significant interaction effects were found among the teachers’marital statu, having children, education level,branch, the way of chosing occupation and attandence of soscial activity and their learned resourcefulness levels by means of their burnout levels.However according to the variables of gender, years spending in tecahing, salary and being happywith salary or not and their learned resourcefulness levels no interaction effects was found. Alsono main effect was found when each variables istaken one by one. Allthough there was no significant effects among only age and thinking of leaving the job variables and learned resourcefulneslevels by means of burnout levels, but main effectswas found when each variables is taken one by one
