YÖNETİM BİLİMİNİN DİNSEL KÖKLERİ ÜZERİNE

Year 2019, Issue: 31, 29 - 52, 01.06.2019

Abstract

ON RELIGIOUS ROOTS IN MANAGEMENT SCIENCE

Year 2019, Issue: 31, 29 - 52, 01.06.2019

Abstract

This study examines the role and effect of religion in management theories and practices. Depending on the historicity of the phenomenon of management, management practices and techniques often include a value system that supports certain ideologies. The religious concepts and values/beliefs used in both the traditional/bureaucratic model and the new public management model are proof of this. However, the place and importance of religious knowledge, metaphors, myths and symbols in management practices have been almost completely ignored in the literature. In this context, the aim of the study is to reveal the historical moments of shaping the relationship between management and religion and to determine how religion affects the ethics and values of public service. Although it was more focused on the Christian thought system as a result of the formulation of the debates on Management Science in axis North Europe and America, the effects of other religious beliefs were partly mentioned. In the study, it is asserted to hidden that religious-moral discourse and metaphors, which are not often seen from the outside under management practices, but support the transformation of management understanding and organizational culture.
