Abstract

Abstract

The History of Mayyāfāriḳīn and Amid, written by Aḥmed b. Yūsuf b. ‘Alī ibn el-Ezraḳ el-Fāriḳī, has two copies in the British Museum (Or. 6310 ve 5803). In this article, information about the Caucasus has been compiled by making use of both copies of the History of Meyyafariḳīn, mainly the copy numbered 5803. Although Ibn al-Ezraḳ wrote his work in three volumes, the first two volumes have not survived. The third volume, which has survived, covers the period from the period of Rashidun Caliphate to the period in which the author lived. Due to Ibn al-Ezraḳ was in the service of the Georgian King Dimitri (1125-1156) in 1153-1154, this work contains important information about the history of the Caucasus. Witnessing the events personally by the author increases the importance and reliability of the information he gives in his work. The fact that Ibn al-Ezraḳ does not have the purpose of presenting his work to any ruler and gaining a benefit from it also increases the value of his work. This book, which is the only original source of Artuqid history, is one of the reference sources for researchers studying Seljuk and Crusader history. Thanks to this book, we also have important information about Shah-Armens, Artukids and some other small Anatolian principalities.
