The Analysis of Istanbul’s Financial Center Project)

Abstract

Banks Association of Turkey has commissioned Deloitte Consulting to prepare a report about Istanbul to become a Financial Center. Since Istanbul is a mega-city and has historical advantages, the idea is supported by financial community. “Istanbul Becoming a Financial Center” Project is analyzed regarding skilled labor force, revenue generation potential, image, legal environment,, political and economical stability, fiscal environment, regulatory framework, infrastructure, ease of doing business, life-style and cost of doing business. Besides, it can be seen that the effective Banking Law and its practices is creating obstacles to achieve this target. The studies for EU accession and Turkey’s pace of taking actions will be the important tools to achieve this target.
