Local governments are considered a fundamental element of democracy. These governments are
assigned with local preservation of a particular area and ensuring public participation. In a democratic
society, local governments are generally elected by elections and public participation is of
great importance in these elections. Local governments can focus more closely on their countries
and provide more effective solutions. The relationship between democracy and local governments
is realized through the direct representation of the people and elections held through representatives.
Local governments can achieve democratic principles by ensuring accountability, transparency
and responsibilities in principle. This enables people to actively participate in management
parts and influence decision-making parts. It includes respecting the democratic structure and
fundamental rights and freedoms of the local government and ensuring justice. In addition, equality
of opportunity and continuity of justice are also important for various social segments and minorities
to be able to make their voices heard. As a result, the relationship between local governments
and democracy is important to ensure public participation, accountability and fair governance. This
relationship can increase social welfare by ensuring effective and democratic governance at the
local level. This study examines the relationship between local governments and democracy in the
context of the basic features of local democracy.
