Veda Hutbesi'nin Psikososyal Analizi: İkna, Kimlik ve Norm Oluşumu

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışma, Hz. Muhammed'in Veda Hutbesi'ni modern sosyal psikoloji kuramları ve kavramları çerçevesinde analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Hutbe'nin ikna ediciliği, kolektif kimlik oluşturma gücü ve sosyal normları tesis etme biçiminin altında yatan psikososyal mekanizmaların disiplinlerarası bir yaklaşımla yeterince incelenmediği tespit edilmiş olup, bu çalışma literatürdeki bu boşluğu doldurmayı hedeflemektedir. Yöntem: Çalışmada, Veda Hutbesi metni nitel içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Analiz, ikna (kaynak güvenilirliği, otorite, kıtlık, çerçeveleme, duygusal çekicilik), sosyal kimlik (Sosyal Kimlik Kuramı, Ortak İç Grup Kimliği Modeli), tutum değişimi (ön yargıların hedeflenmesi, yeni değerlerin sunulması) ve sosyal normların tesisi (norm belirleme, uyma mekanizmaları) gibi sosyal psikoloji süreçlerine odaklanmıştır. Bulgular: Analiz sonucunda, Veda Hutbesi'nin sofistike ikna stratejileri içerdiği bulunmuştur. Bunlar arasında mesaj kaynağının yüksek güvenilirliği, kıtlık ilkesiyle mesajın aciliyetinin vurgulanması, kavramları yeniden çerçeveleyen dil kullanımı ve duygusal çekicilik sağlayan analojiler yer almaktadır. Ayrıca, Hutbe'nin kabilecilik gibi bölücü kimlikleri aşarak, ortak inanç ve kökene dayalı, eşitlikçi (takva temelli üstünlük) ve kapsayıcı bir 'Müslüman Ümmeti' kimliği inşa etmek için sosyal kimlik ve grup dinamikleri prensiplerini etkin bir şekilde kullandığı tespit edilmiştir. Yerleşik tutumların (örneğin, ırk temelli üstünlük, kadınlara yönelik algılar) dönüştürülmesi ve adalet, emanet, kardeşlik gibi yeni sosyal normların yerleştirilmesi için kamusal bağlılık, liderin örnek olması ve ilahi hesap verebilirlik gibi mekanizmaların kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Veda Hutbesi'nin kalıcı etkisinin yalnızca teolojik içeriğinden değil, aynı zamanda insan psikolojisinin temel dinamiklerini ustalıkla kullanan bütüncül ve çok katmanlı psikososyal stratejilerinden kaynaklandığı öne sürülmektedir. Bu durum, Hutbe'yi sadece dini bir metin değil, aynı zamanda başarılı bir sosyal mühendislik örneği olarak konumlandırmaktadır. Bu analiz, sosyal psikoloji kuramlarının farklı kültürel ve tarihsel bağlamlardaki geçerliliğini desteklemekte ve Veda Hutbesi'ne dair anlayışı derinleştirmektedir.

Psychosocial Analysis of the Farewell Sermon: Persuasion, Identity, and Norm Formation

Abstract

Aim: This study aims to analyze Prophet Muhammad's Farewell Sermon, a pivotal event in Islamic history, using the framework of modern social psychology theories and concepts. It seeks to address the identified gap in the literature concerning the systematic, interdisciplinary investigation of the psychosocial mechanisms underlying the sermon's persuasive power, collective identity-building function, and methods for establishing social norms. Method: The research employed qualitative content analysis of the Farewell Sermon's text. The analysis focused on examining processes related to persuasion (including source credibility, authority, scarcity, framing, emotional appeal), social identity (drawing on Social Identity Theory and the Common Ingroup Identity Model), attitude change (specifically targeting prejudice and introducing new values), and the establishment of social norms (including norm setting and compliance mechanisms). Findings: The findings reveal that the sermon incorporated sophisticated persuasion techniques, leveraging high source credibility, the scarcity principle to emphasize urgency, strategic language framing, and vivid emotional analogies, thereby engaging both cognitive and affective channels. It effectively utilized principles of social identity and group dynamics to transcend divisive identities like tribalism ('asabiyyah) and construct an inclusive "Muslim Ummah" identity based on shared origins, faith, and egalitarian values (piety-based superiority). Furthermore, the analysis identified specific mechanisms designed to modify entrenched attitudes (e.g., concerning lineage-based superiority and perceptions of women) and to institute new social norms such as justice, trustworthiness, and brotherhood. These norms were reinforced through methods like public commitment rituals, leader modeling, and appeals to divine accountability. Conclusion: The study posits that the enduring impact of the Farewell Sermon originates not only from its theological content but also significantly from its skillful application of multi-layered and integrated psychosocial strategies. This presents the sermon not merely as a religious text but also as a successful example of social engineering. This analysis reinforces the explanatory power of social psychology theories across diverse cultural-historical contexts and contributes to a significantly deeper understanding of the Farewell Sermon itself.
