Tıp Sembolü ile İlgili Tıp Fakültesi Birinci ve İkinci Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Görüşleri

Abstract

Tıbbın sembolü antik çağlardan günümüze asaya sarılı yılan olarak bilinmektedir. Tıp sembolü bir dizi tarihi ve etik değeri içinde barındırmaktadır. Tıp sembolünün temsil ettiği mesleki ve etik değerlerin tıp fakültesinin ilk yıllarında öğrenim gören 1.Sınıf ve 2.Sınıf öğrencilerindeki karşılıklarını anlamak için bir çalışma planlanmıştır. Aydın Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 1. ve 2. Sınıf öğrencilerinden gönüllü olan öğrencilere tıp sembolü ile ilgili soruların yer aldığı bir anket formunu doldurmaları istenmiştir. Çalışmaya toplam 124 öğrenci katılmıştır (51 öğrenci 1.Sınıf, 73 öğrenci 2.Sınıf). Sonuçlar değerlendirildiğinde tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin genel olarak tıbbın sembolü ile ilgili bilgileri ve farkındalıklarının olduğu ancak tarihi kökenlerini bilmedikleri görülmektedir. Tıp eğitiminde tıp sembolünün tarihsel arka planının bilinmesi ve karşılık gelen anlamların öğrencilere aktarılmasının önemli olduğunu düşünüyoruz.

Opinions of the First and Second Year Students of the Faculty of Medicine About the Medical Symbol

Abstract

The symbol of medicine has been known as the snake wrapped in a staff since prehistoric times.. The symbol of medicine contains many historical and ethical values. A study was planned to understand the equivalents of the professional and ethical values represented by the medical symbol in the 1st and 2nd year students studying in the first years of medical school. Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine 1st and 2nd year students were asked to fill in a questionnaire form with questions about the medical symbol to volunteer students. A total of 124 students participated in the study (51 students 1st grade, 73 2nd grade students). When the results are evaluated, it is seen that medical school students generally have knowledge and awareness about the symbol of medicine, but they do not know its historical origins. We think that it is important to know the historical background of the medical symbol in medical education and to convey the corresponding meanings to the students in order to keep the professional and ethical values alive.
