A Complementary Approach to Midwifery Practices: Universal Expression of Emotional Language, Laughter Yoga

Abstract

Educated midwives, who take an important place in the health system, inform women and offer options related to health services. One of these options is complementary therapies. Midwives are healthcare professionals who frequently use these complementary therapies in their practices. The place of these therapies in midwifery differs. It is observed that midwives sometimes recommend these therapies and sometimes apply them. Laughter yoga, one of the complementary therapies, may also be an option that midwives can recommend or use in their practices. Laughter yoga is a practice that is performed in groups, in sessions, and as exercises. This practice has positive effects on physiological, psychological, and social health. It also has positive effects on the health of women in the menopause and postpartum periods and women with breast cancer. The fact that midwives, who are involved in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum periods, integrate this practice into midwifery science may also positively affect women's health. Considering the positive effects of laughter yoga on health, we consider that it can be a complementary approach that can be used in midwifery science. The aim of this review is to provide insight that laughter yoga can be used in the field of midwifery.

Ebelik Uygulamalarına Tamamlayıcı Bir Yaklaşım: Duygu Dilinin Evrensel İfadesi, Kahkaha Yogası

Abstract

Sağlık sisteminde önemli bir yere sahip olan eğitimli ebeler; kadınlara bilgilendirme yapar ve sağlık hizmetleri ile ilgili seçenekler sunarlar. Bu seçeneklerden biri de tamamlayıcı terapilerdir. Ebelerin bu terapileri kimi zaman önerdiği, kimi zaman da uyguladığı görülmektedir. Tamamlayıcı terapilerden biri olan kahkaha yogası da ebelerin önereceği veya uygulamalarında kullanabilecekleri bir seçenek olabilir. Kahkaha yogası gruplarla birlikte, seanslar halinde ve egzersiz şeklinde yapılan bir uygulamadır. Bu uygulamanın fizyolojik, psikolojik ve sosyal yönden sağlık üzerine olumlu etkileri bulunmaktadır. Bu olumlu etkiler menopoz dönemi, pospartum dönem ve meme kanserli kadınların sağlığı üzerinde de olmuştur. Kahkaha yogasının sağlık üzerine olumlu etkilerini düşündüğümüzde; ebelik biliminde kullanılabilecek tamamlayıcı bir yaklaşım olabileceği kanaatindeyiz. Bu derlemenin amacı; kahkaha yogasının ebelik alanında kullanılabileceği konusunda öngörü kazandırmaktır.
