Büyükada Tarihî “Merkez” Eczanesi ve Eczacıları

Abstract

Giriş ve Amaç: Büyükada Merkez Eczanesi, tarihi dokusu kısmen bozulmuş olsa da günümüze kadar korunarak gelen tarihi eczane binası ve işlevselliği ile dikkat çekmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, tarihi dokusu bozulmadan günümüze kadar ulaşmış olan Merkez Eczanesi’ni belgeler, fotoğraflar, sözlü tarih çalışması ve kaynaklar doğrultusunda irdelemektir.
Yöntem: Çalışmanın kaynağını eczane içinde yer alan ve daha önce yayınlanmamış olan tarihi belgeler ve fotoğraflar oluşturmaktadır. Eczanenin şu anki sahibi olan Ecz. Avni Kurtuldu ile 10 Mayıs 2018 tarihinde yüz yüze görüşme yapılarak eczanenin tarihi hakkında bilgi alınmıştır. Avni Kurtuldu ile eczanenin hikâyesini konuşurken genel sorular çerçevesinde bilgisinden yararlanılmıştır. Eczane içinde sergilenen tarihi fotoğraflar kronolojik sıra gözetilerek yorumlanmıştır. Fotoğraflar ve belgeler yorumlanırken dönem dönem eczanenin işletmeciliğini yapan eczacılar hakkında bilgi edinmek için literatüre başvurulmuştur. Eczanenin dış cephesi ile içindeki obje ve belgeler makalenin yazarı Burcu Özdemir tarafından fotoğraflanmıştır.
Bulgular: Büyükada’daki Merkez Eczanesinin günümüzde yıkılan kilisenin karşısında yer aldığı yaklaşık 153 yıldır faaliyet gösterdiği belirtildi. Önce Rum (Georges Papa Gabriel ve Hayk Istepanian ) ardından Türk eczacılar (Şinasi Rıza Birbil, Hüsnü Ocakcıoğlu vd.) tarafından işletilerek kültürel varlığı da korunarak günümüze kadar gelen eczanedir. Eczanenin içinde yer alan obje ve belgelerin sayımı, aktif olarak işletildiğinden dolayı kısıtlı imkanlarla yapılabilmiş tam bir envanter çıkarılmasını zorlaştırmıştır.
Sonuç: Merkez Eczanesi’nin tarihi dokusunun korunması, sonraki yıllarda bu mekânın sahipleri değişse bile kültürel varlığı korumanın bilincinde kişilerce işletilmeye devam edilmesi eczacılık ve sağlık tarihi için önem arz etmektedir. Bu eczanenin tarih, kültürel miras bilinci ve özellikle tarihi koruma bilinci ile yaşayan gelecek nesillere miras kalması önemlidir.

Buyukada Hıstorical “Merkez Pharmacy” and Pharmacists

Abstract

Aim: Although the historical texture of Büyükada Merkez Pharmacy has been partially deteriorated, it draws attention with its historical pharmacy building and functionality, which has been preserved until today. The aim of this study is to introduce the Büyükada Merkez Pharmacy, which is to scrutinize to today without deteriorating its historical texture, in the light of documents, photographs, oral history study and resources.
Methods: The source of the study is the historical documents and photographs in the pharmacy that have not been published before. The current owner of the pharmacy, Ecz. A face-to-face interview was held with Avni Kurtuldu on May 10, 2018, and information about the history of the pharmacy was obtained. While talking about the story of the pharmacy with Avni Kurtuldu, his knowledge was used within the framework of general questions. Historical photographs exhibited in the pharmacy have been interpreted in chronological order. Historical photographs exhibited in the pharmacy have been interpreted in chronological order. While interpreting the photographs and documents, the literature was consulted to obtain information about the pharmacists who operated the pharmacy from time to time. The exterior of the pharmacy and the objects and documents inside were photographed by the author of the article, Burcu Özdemir.
Results: It is stated that the Merkez Pharmacy in Büyükada is located opposite the destroyed church today and has been operating for approximately 153 years. It is a pharmacy that has survived to the present day by preserving its cultural existence by first being operated by Greek (Georges Papa Gabriel and Hayk Istepanian) and then Turkish pharmacists (Şinasi Rıza Birbil, Hüsnü Ocakcıoğlu et al.). Counting the objects and documents in the pharmacy made it difficult to make a complete inventory, which could be done with limited resources, since it was actively operated.
Discussion: It is important for the history of pharmacy and health to preserve the historical texture of the Merkez Pharmacy and to continue to operate it by people who are conscious of preserving the cultural property, even if the owners of this place change in the following years. Since there is no known pharmacy that has been serving in the same place for about 153 years, the effort of pharmacist Avni Kurtuldu, who made efforts to make Büyükada Central Pharmacy a "Pharmaceutical Museum" in the following years should be taken into consideration. This pharmacy should is important by future generations who live with the awareness of history, cultural heritage and especially historical preservation.
