Plutarkhos’un De Tuenda Sanitate Praecepta/Ὑγιεινὰ Παραγγέλματα (Sağlığın Korunması Üzerine Tavsiyeler) Adlı Çalışması: Tıp Tarihi Bağlamında Bir İnceleme

Abstract

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı Plutarkhos’un De Tuenda Sanitate Praecepta/Ὑγιεινὰ παραγγέλματα (Sağlığın Korunması Üzerine Tavsiyeler) adlı yapıtını gündeme getirmek ve yazarın sağlığın değeri ve korunmasıyla ilgili söylem ve aktarımlarını Tıp Tarihi bağlamında değerlendirmektir.
Yöntem: Çalışma, Plutarkhos’un 16 ciltten oluşan Moralia/Ἠθικὰ/Ethika olarak bilinen eserinin ikinci cildinde 213-293 sayfaları arasında yer alan De Tuenda Sanitate Praecepta adlı deneme yazısı üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada metin analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Plutarkhos’un kültürel sınıfa yönelik olarak sağlığın değeri ve korunmasıyla ilgili tavsiyeleri saptanmış ve elde edilen bilgiler Tıp Tarihi ışığında incelenmiştir. Çalışma, Ocak-Mayıs 2024 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada başvurulan kaynaklara yazarların kendi kütüphaneleri ve çevrimiçi kaynaklardan ulaşılmıştır.
Bulgular: Bu değerlendirme sırasında; hekimin değerli olduğu düşüncesi, tıp-felsefe ilişkisi, humoral patoloji kuramı, zihin-beden ilişkisi, ölçülülük, harici hastalık, prognoz yaklaşımı, ruh kavramı, rüyalar, ses, mantık ve beden egzersizi, soğuk banyonun zararları, sıcak banyonun faydaları, beslenme, şarap tüketimi, etkili ilaçların kullanılmaması gerektiği ve yaşam tarzının önemi gibi konulara değinildiği saptanmıştır.
Sonuç: Plutarkhos’un hekim olmamasına rağmen, Antik Çağ’ın tıp bilgisini oluşturan bazı temel kavramlara hâkim olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Başta Hippokrates, Platon ve Aristoteles olmak üzere önemli tarihi figürlere atıf yaptığı fark edilmiş olup çeşitli anlatılar, aforizmalar, tanıklıklar ve benzetmelerle metni çekici hale getirdiği ve okuyucunun ilgisini arttırdığı görülmüştür. Sağlığın korunması konusunda verdiği bilgiler, döneminin sayılır bir sağlık okuryazarı olarak anımsanmasını düşündürmektedir.

Plutarch’s Work Named De Tuenda Sanitate Praecepta/Ὑγιεινὰ Παραγγέλματα (Recommendations on the Protection of Health): A Review in the Context of History of Medicine

Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study is to bring up Plutarch’s work called De Tuenda Sanitate Praecepta/Ὑγιεινὰ παραγγέλματα (Recommendations on the Protection of Health) and to evaluate the author’s discourses and transfers about the value and protection of health in the context of the History of Medicine.
Materials and Methods: The study was carried out on the essay titled De Tuenda Sanitate Praecepta which is located between pages 213-293 in the second volume of Plutarch’s 16 volume work known as Moralia/Ἠθικὰ/Ethika. Text analysis method was used in the study. Plutarch’s recommendations regarding the value and protection of health for the cultural class were determined and the obtained information was examined in the light of the History of Medicine. The study has been conducted between January and May 2024. The sources used in the study have been accessed the authors’ own libraries and online sources.
Results: It has been determined that issues such as the idea that the physician is valuable, medicine-philosophy relationship, humoral pathology theory, mind-body relationship, moderation, concept of soul, dreams, sound, logic and body exercise, harms of cold baths, benefits of hot baths, nutrition, wine consumption, the avoidance of effective drugs and the importance of lifestyle were mentioned.
Conclusion: Although Plutarch was not a physician, it has been concluded that he mastered some of the basic concepts that constitute the medical knowledge of Antiquity. It has been noticed that he made references to important historical figures, especially Hippocrates, Plato and Aristotle, and it has seen that he made the text attractive and increased the reader’s interest with various narratives, aphorisms, testimonies and analogies.
