Yeşil Diş Hekimliği ve Sürdürülebilirlik: Diş Hekimliğinin Bugünü ve Geleceği

Abstract

Yeşil diş hekimliği, diş hekimliğinde nispeten yeni ortaya çıkan bir kavramdır. Diş hekimliği uygulamalarının çevresel olumsuz etkilerini azaltmayı amaçlayan bir yaklaşım içerir. Diş hekimliği pratiğinde atıkların çoğundan sorumlu dört prosedür vardır. Bunlar: Amalgam, konvansiyonel X-ray sistemleri, tek kullanımlık bariyerler, sterilizasyon malzemeleri gibi enfeksiyon kontrol yöntemleri ve geleneksel vakumlu sakşın sistemleridir. Klinik pratiğinde çevreye verdiğimiz zararı azaltmak açısından ünitlerde amalgam ayırıcı kullanılmalıdır. Konvansiyonel X-ray sistemlerinden kaynaklanan gümüş ve kurşun gibi atıkları azaltmak için ise dijital radyografiye geçiş yapılmalıdır. Ayrıca kliniklerimizde tek kullanımlık malzemelerden kaynaklanan atıklar için otoklavlanabilen malzemelerin kullanımına önem verilmelidir. Gereğinden fazla su kullanımına izin veren geleneksel vakumlu sakşın sistemleri yerine ise kuru vakum sistemleri tercih edilmelidir. Ülkemizde atık oluşum sebeplerinin gözden geçirilerek atık oluşumunun engellenmesi, atığın oluşması durumunda ayrı olarak toplanması ve geri kazanımının sağlanmasını kapsayan Sıfır Atık Projesi Sağlık Bakanlığı olmak üzere kamu kurum ve kuruluşlarında hayata geçmektedir. Diş hekimliğinde kullandığımız birçok ekipman ve materyal karbon ayak izi oluşumuna neden olmakta ve doğal kaynaklara zarar vermektedir. Bu yüzden kullandığımız materyallerin yeniden kullanılabilir veya geri dönüştürülebilir olmasına dikkat edilmelidir. Diş hekimliği pratiğinde yeşil prensipleri hayata geçirmek ve yaygınlaştırmak adına bu konuya lisans ve mezuniyet sonrası eğitimlerde yer verilmelidir. Bu derlemenin amacı diş hekimliği mesleğinde yeşil ve sürdürülebilir prensiplerin neler olduğunu ve yaptığımız klinik uygulamaların çevreye olan zararlı etkilerinin azaltılmasını açıklamaktır.
