A New Kind of Literacy in the Age of Digital Transformation: A Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Artificial Intelligence Literacy (2015–2025)

Abstract

This study, which examined national and international academic studies in the field of artificial intelligence literacy published between 2015 and 2025, used bibliometric analysis. A total of 7,818 records from WoS, Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar databases were scanned based on criteria determined by the PRISMA model, which is increasingly used in bibliometric research, and 3,023 studies were selected for detailed analysis. During the analysis phase, the distribution of publications by year, geographic sources, target audiences, thematic trends, and keyword relationships was examined. The findings were also supported by visual maps and trend graphs. The results of the study revealed that research on artificial intelligence literacy has gained significant momentum since 2019, and that, due to the influence of generative artificial intelligence technologies (ChatGPT, Gemini, Deepseek), there has been a significant increase in the number of publications and citations between 2023 and 2024. The research results reveal that artificial intelligence is a multidimensional field that combines technical knowledge, ethical awareness, data literacy, digital literacy, and pedagogical practices. As a fundamental skill of the 21st century, artificial intelligence is expected to play a significant role in digital transformation strategies and education policies.
