The Effect of Using the "Betty Neuman Systems Model" on Stress and Anxiety in the Nursing Process: A Systematic Review

Abstract

The aim of this systematic review is to examine the effect of using "betty neuman systems model" on stress and anxiety in the nursing process. Randomized controlled, non-randomized controlled, retrospective, cohort, cohort, prospective, cross-sectional and descriptive studies published in English and Turkish between 2013 and 2023 and used in the nursing process and whose full text could be accessed were included in the study. Letters to the editor, qualitative studies and reviews were excluded. This research; Pubmed, Scopus, EBSCO Host, Ulakbim Turkish Medical Database, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar and Cochrane databases were searched using the keywords "Neuman systems model", "Betty neuman and anxiety", "Systems model and stress", "Betty neuman theory", "Systems theory and nursing", "Systems theory and anxiety", "Betty neuman systems model and anxiety", "Neuman systems model and nursing care", "Neuman theory and stress". Then, the articles were analyzed by the researchers using a data collection form and the names of the authors, year of publication, type of research, and research results were revealed for the relevant studies. According to the inclusion criteria, a total of 6 studies were included in the study. The studies examining the effects of the Betty Neuman Systems Model on anxiety and stress were evaluated. A total of 328 people participated in the studies. The use of the Neuman Systems Model in the nursing process was found to reduce preoperative patient anxiety, reduce patient anxiety when integrated into a psychoeducation program in a breast cancer case, reduce environmental stressors of patients in the intensive care unit and prevent delirium, reduce anxiety and stress levels experienced by patients undergoing myocardial revascularization, and reduce anxiety in older adults waiting for colonoscopy. According to the studies analyzed, Neuman Systems Model was found to reduce anxiety, stress and depression levels of patients when used in the nursing process.

Hemşirelik Sürecinde "Betty Neuman Sistemler Modeli" Kullanılmasının Stres ve Anksiyete Üzerine Etkisi: Sistematik Derleme

Abstract

Bu sistematik derlemenin amacı hemşirelik sürecinde "betty neuman sistemler modeli" kullanılmasının stres ve anksiyete üzerine etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmaya 2013-2023 yılları arasında İngilizce ve Türkçe dillerinde yayınlanan, hemşirelik sürecinde kullanılan, randomize kontrollü, randomize kontrollü olmayan, retrosprektif, kohort, prospektif, kesitsel ve tanımlayıcı tipte; tam metnine ulaşılabilen çalışmalar dahil edilmiştir. Editöre mektup, nitel tipteki çalışmalar ve derlemeler dahil edilmemiştir. Bu araştırma; Pubmed, Scopus, EBSCO Host, Ulakbim Türk Tıp Veritabanı, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar ve Cochrane veri tabanlarında “Neuman systems model”, “Betty neuman and anxiety”, “Systems model and stress”, “Betty neuman theory”, “Systems theory and nursing”, “Systems theory and anxiety”, “Betty neuman sistemler modeli ve anksiyete”, “Neuman sistemler modeli ve hemşirelik bakımı”, “Neuman teorisi ve stres” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak araştırmaya ilişkin çalışmalar tarandı. Daha sonra ele alınan makaleler araştırmacılar tarafından bir veri toplama formu kullanılarak ilgili çalışmalar için yazar isimleri, yayın yılı, araştırma tipi, araştırma sonuçları ortaya konuldu. Araştırmada dahil edilme kriterlerine göre toplam 6 çalışma ele alınmıştır. Araştırmada Betty Neuman Sistemler Modeli’nin anksiyete ve stres üzerinde etkilerini inceleyen çalışmalar değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmalara toplam 328 kişi katılmıştır. Neuman Sistemler Modeli’nin hemşirelik sürecinde kullanılması; ameliyat öncesi hasta kaygısının azalttığı, meme kanseri bir olguda psikoeğitim programına entegre edildiğinde hastanın anksiyetesini azalttığı, yoğun bakım ünitesindeki hastaların çevresel stresörlerini azaltıp deliryumu önlediği, miyokardiyal revaskülarizasyon uygulanan hastaların yaşadığı anksiyete ve stres düzeylerini azalttığı ve kolonoskopi bekleyen yaşlı erişkinlerin anksiyetesini azalttığı belirlenmiştir. İncelenen araştırmalara göre Neuman Sistemler Modeli, hemşirelik sürecinde kullanıldığında hastaların anksiyete, stres ve depresyon düzeylerini azalttığı saptanmıştır.
