THEODOROS TERZOPOULOS’ WORKING METHOD: AN OVERVIEW

Abstract

The 20th-century theater has defined itself over and over with the emergence of the concept of theatricality against the classical understanding of representation. Methodological research on acting that emerged in this period continues to exist in the contemporary theatrical field. Director Theodoros Terzopoulos, who actively continues his methodological research and practice that he started in the last quarter of the 20th century, calls today's theater to rethink the idea of the universal body. According to him, the Body, the concept of the body, has been abolished in our age. For this reason, Terzopoulos directed his Dionysian research on the performer's stage presence, starting from the idea of the universal body. Terzopoulos focuses on the performing-body, from which meaning, energy, and effect derive in its relationship with the audience. Therefore, he emphasizes the idea of building a new performing-body by breaking down the defunctioning daily-body of our age. This fragmentation and reintegration determines the central axis of his working method. This study examines Theodoros Terzopoulos' working method from a general perspective and, as it is applied today, with the stages of corporal training, vocal training, deconstruction, and infinite improvisation.

THEODOROS TERZOPOULOS ÇALIŞMA YÖNTEMİNE GENEL BAKIŞ

Abstract

20. yüzyıl tiyatrosu, tarihsel avangartlarla birlikte klasik temsil anlayışının karşısında teatrallik kavramının ortaya çıkması ve buna bağlı olarak tiyatronun araçlarını yeniden ele almasıyla birlikte kendini tekrar tekrar tanımlamıştır. Bu dönemde ortaya çıkan oyunculuk üzerine yöntem araştırmaları çağdaş tiyatro alanında varlığını sürdürmektedir. 20. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde başladığı yöntem araştırmasını ve uygulamasını günümüzde aktif olarak sürdüren yönetmen Theodoros Terzopoulos teatral eylemin merkezine oyuncuyu alan bir yönetmen olarak bugünün tiyatrosunu evrensel beden fikrini yeniden düşünmeye çağırır. Çünkü O’na göre çağımızda beden/beden fikri feshedilmiştir. Terzopoulos feshedilmiş beden düşüncesi karşısında evrensel beden düşüncesinden yola çıkarak oyuncunun sahnesel varlığı üzerinde Dionysosçu bir araştırmaya yönelmiştir. Terzopoulos anlamın, enerjinin, etkinin seyirciyle ilişkisi içinde kendinden türediği oynayan/icra eden Bedeni merkeze alır. Bu nedenle oyuncunun çalışmasında çağımızın feshedilmiş gündelik bedenini parçalayarak yeni bir oyuncu beden inşa edilmesi fikri üzerinde durur. Çalışma yönteminin ana eksenini belirleyen düşünce bu parçalanma ve yeniden bütünlenmedir. Bu bağlamda çalışma içinde Theodoros Terzopoulos’un çalışma yöntemi genel bir bakış açısıyla ve günümüzde uygulandığı şekliyle korporal çalışma, vokal çalışma, yapıbozum ve Sonsuz Doğaçlama evreleri ile ele alınmıştır.
