Kaydır, beğen, güven?: Instagram’daki #minddiyeti etiketiyle paylaşılan içeriklerin bilgi kalitesinin değerlendirilmesi

Year 2025, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 56 - 65, 17.07.2025

Abstract

Year 2025, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 56 - 65, 17.07.2025

Abstract

Social media has grown to be a valuable resource for finding health-related information, although the content's dependability and quality are frequently questionable. The MIND diet combines the beneficial elements of the DASH and Mediterranean diets in an effort to prevent cognitive deterioration. This study aimed to examine the content quality and reliability of Instagram posts about the MIND diet. The study examined 90 contents tagged with #minddiyeti, #mınddiyeti, and #mindditetinedir. The reliability of the contents was evaluated by three expert dietitians using modified DISCERN (m-DISCERN), and their quality was assessed by Global Quality Score (GQS) and Audio-Visual Quality Score (AVQ). Among the content creators, 68.9% were dietitians and 13.3% were other healthcare professionals; additionally, 53.3% were classified as nano-influencers. The average GQS score was 2.63 (±1.13); the m-DISCERN score was 2.27 (±1.51), and the İGK score was 2.22 (±0.73). The content was generally found to be of low quality, insufficient information, and moderate quality regarding visual-auditory aspects. A strong positive correlation was found between GQS and m-DISCERN, and moderate positive correlations were found between GQS and İGK, and between m-DISCERN and İGK (respectively, r=0.762, r=0.449, r=0.432; p<0.001). No significant differences were found between quality scores and the number of followers or occupational groups. According to GQS, 31.1% of the content is of moderate quality, and only 4.4% is of excellent quality. According to m-DISCERN scores, 62.2% of the content is poor quality. In 70.0% of the content, information sources are unreliable; 84.4% do not include additional information sources, and 71.1% do not address controversial or ambiguous topics. This study found that Instagram posts about the MIND diet generally lack adequate information quality and reliability. To prevent misinformation, content creators should prioritize accuracy and clarity, producing more reliable and high-quality content.
