Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Nuh Naci Yazgan University Health Research Journal (NNYUSAD)
PUBLICATION POLICY

Nuh Naci Yazgan University Health Research Journal (NNYUSAD) is a “Peer-Reviewed Journal” and only manuscripts that have undergone peer review are published.

The journal's publication processes are conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and the National Information Standards Organization (NISO).

The journal adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics and adopts the ethical publishing principles published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

The journal publishes manuscripts in both Turkish and English. Submissions must comply with the journal's writing, spelling, and citation guidelines.

The journal is published electronically and free of charge twice a year, in June and December.

In accordance with its publication policy, the journal does not charge any fees for manuscript submission, peer review, or publication of accepted manuscripts.

Manuscripts are submitted through the DergiPark system. All submitted works must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another publication.

The initial evaluation process, which examines the manuscript's relevance to the journal's aims and scope, scientific merit, and adherence to the journal's writing guidelines, takes a maximum of one month. Authors are informed of the initial evaluation result within this period.

As part of the initial evaluation, all manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software. If the similarity rate (excluding references) is 20% or higher, the manuscript is rejected by the editor-in-chief or section editor.

Authors are deemed to have accepted that their manuscripts are ready for publication as submitted. Each manuscript is reviewed by the section editor and at least two independent reviewers. The peer review process is conducted within the framework of a double-blind review system. If one of the two reviewer reports is positive and the other negative, a third reviewer is consulted.

The views expressed in the published articles and the responsibility for these views belong solely to the author(s). These views do not reflect those of Nuh Naci Yazgan University, the Editorial Board, and/or the publisher. Therefore, Nuh Naci Yazgan University, the Editorial Board, and/or the publisher do not accept any responsibility or liability for such material.

Copyrights (including reproduction, distribution, public communication, adaptation, and translation rights) for accepted manuscripts are transferred to the Nuh Naci Yazgan University Institute of Health Sciences for both domestic and international use in printed, visual, audio, digital, and other formats. No royalty fees are paid for this purpose.

PUBLICATION ETHICS PRINCIPLES

The journal follows high standards of academic principles and ethical values at the national and international levels. It adheres to the principles outlined in the Higher Education Council (YÖK) Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive and international ethical standards set by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.

Unless they conflict with the aforementioned principles, other national or international guidelines or standards related to publication ethics are also accepted as valid.

Manuscripts that objectively violate these principles or standards before, during, or after the evaluation process are rejected. If such a violation is detected after publication, the relevant article is immediately retracted.

Submitted manuscripts must be original and must not have been published in another journal and/or conference proceedings as full text. Authors must declare that they comply with all the ethical principles and standards mentioned above.

Manuscripts must not be under review by another journal.

Research involving social sciences or requiring ethical approval for clinical or experimental studies must have obtained ethical committee approval. This approval must be stated in the “Methods” section of the article (including committee name, decision number, date, and number) and must be documented. The journal adheres to the “Declaration of Helsinki” principles for human research. Authors must state in the “Methods” section that informed consent was obtained and that the study was conducted in accordance with these principles. Under the Personal Data Protection Law, obtaining consent and providing it to authorized bodies upon request is the authors’ responsibility. For studies involving animals, authors must state in the “Methods” section that animal rights were protected and that approval from the animal ethics committee was obtained in accordance with the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.”

Studies requiring ethical committee approval include:

All types of research using qualitative or quantitative methods such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, and techniques that collect data from participants;

Research involving the experimental or scientific use of humans or animals (including materials/data);

Clinical studies conducted on humans;

  1. Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
    The Editorial Board consists of the Honorary Editor, Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and Publication Editors.

    Submitted manuscripts are evaluated objectively and impartially, without bias based on authors’ race, ethnic origin, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political views.

    The decision to include manuscripts in the review process and to publish them is jointly made by the Editor-in-Chief and the relevant Associate Editor. This decision is based on the manuscript’s relevance to the journal’s scope, validity, originality, clarity, and compliance with ethical standards.

    Editors and journal staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial consultants, or the publisher.

    The Editorial Board may not use any part of a submitted manuscript or any unpublished material contained therein without the explicit written consent of the authors.

    The Editorial Board works in full collaboration and ensures fair distribution of duties in all matters related to the journal.

    Responsibilities of Reviewers
    Reviewers are a key part of the peer-review process. Their evaluations assist the Editorial Board in making editorial decisions and also help authors improve their work.

    Reviewers must carefully and promptly evaluate the manuscripts assigned to them by the journal or its authorized representatives. Reviews should be conducted objectively, fairly, and within their field of expertise.

    If a reviewer identifies a violation of academic or ethical standards during the evaluation, they must immediately notify the Editorial Board.

    Reviewers who feel unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or who are unable to provide a timely review must promptly inform the Editor-in-Chief and withdraw from the review process.

    Reviewers must treat the manuscripts they review as confidential documents and should not share or discuss them with others except those authorized by the Editorial Board.

    Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their opinions clearly and support them with evidence.

    Reviewers should identify if any sources cited in the manuscript are not properly referenced in the bibliography. They must also check that any quotes or opinions from other publications are properly cited.

    Reviewers must notify the Editor if they notice substantial similarities between the manuscript under review and any other published work known to them.

    Reviewers must maintain confidentiality regarding any information or original ideas obtained during the review process and must not use them for personal gain.

    Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts if they have a conflict of interest arising from relationships or connections (e.g., competitive, collaborative, or other) with any of the authors, companies, or institutions involved in the submission.

    Responsibilities of Authors
    Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal must comply with the provisions of Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works, the Higher Education Council’s Directive on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics, and international ethical standards defined by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.

    By submitting a manuscript, authors declare that it has been prepared in accordance with the relevant provisions, principles, and standards.

    Individuals listed as authors must have made significant contributions to:

    Planning the study;

    Data collection;

    Data analysis and interpretation;

    Drafting or revising the manuscript. All authors must read and approve the final version before submission. Anyone who made a significant contribution should be listed as a co-author.

    Authors must review the author list and order before submission and submit the final version with the manuscript.

    Changes to the author list (such as adding or removing an author, or changing the order) are only permitted before acceptance and must be approved by the Editorial Board. Requests must include:

    The reason for the change;

    Written approval from all authors;

    Consent from the author(s) being added or removed.

    Requests for changes after acceptance are only considered in exceptional cases and are at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.

    If an author requests a correction or authorship change after publication, the Editorial Board will re-evaluate the manuscript. Approved changes will be published as a correction notice.

    The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that no one who did not contribute to the manuscript is listed as an author and that all co-authors have approved the final version.

    Authors must complete the “Copyright Transfer Form” and the “Authorship and Conflict of Interest Declaration.” These forms must be signed and submitted by email during the initial submission and sent by post afterward. Failure to do so implies acceptance of the transfer conditions.

    Individuals or organizations who contributed to the research (e.g., statistical support, language editing) must be acknowledged briefly in the "Acknowledgements" section.

    For studies requiring ethical approval, the authors must specify the name of the ethics committee, decision number, date, and approval number in the “Methods” section, and submit the approval document. For studies involving humans, authors must state that they obtained “Informed Consent” in line with the Declaration of Helsinki. Authors are responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and providing consent documents when requested.

    If the manuscript includes copyrighted material (e.g., tables, figures, photographs, surveys) previously published in books or journals, the authors must obtain written permission from the copyright holders and be able to provide proof of this permission.

    Authors must clearly explain the importance and contribution of their work.

    Research data must be accurately represented. Manuscripts containing falsified or misleading statements will be rejected or retracted if already published.

    Editors may request the raw data used in the manuscript. Authors must be prepared to share this data with the Editorial Board.

    Authors must only submit original work and cite all used references appropriately.

    Authors must declare that the manuscript is not under review elsewhere and has not been published previously.

    Authors must revise their manuscripts according to the reviewers’ comments. If stated in the review report, the revised version may be sent for a second round of peer review.

    Authors must declare all potential financial or other conflicts of interest that may affect the results of the study. They must also disclose all funding sources.

    If authors detect any major error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief. The Editorial Board will decide on corrections or retractions.
