Kültürün ve iletişimin metinselliği üzerine bir deneme

Year 2021, Issue: 7, 26 - 39, 30.06.2021

Abstract

An essay on the textuality of culture and communication

Year 2021, Issue: 7, 26 - 39, 30.06.2021

Abstract

The concepts of language, culture, communication and text and the relationality and contextuality of these concepts are studied by social sciences, especially literature; sociology, media/communication studies, philosophy, history, anthropology and intercultural communication disciplines. The British School of Cultural Studies, which was established in the second half of the 20th century as a hybrid field that transcends disciplinary boundaries by making use of the research methodologies of the aforementioned disciplines, explores “culture” as a central category, by analyzing through a series of “texts” - literary, commercial, magazine, television program, fashion, series film etc- in which the concept expands from literary studies to media and communication research. In this study, as a result of the analysis of culture and communication in socio-political and socio-cultural contexts through literary texts, the defense that literary works witness history in the formation, reading, interpretation and transfer of cultural history, by making use of the concept of cultural studies in general and concept of " structure of feeling" of Raymond Williams, one of the founding names of the Cultural Studies, is tried to be put forward through a theoretical discussion. Language creating the communication, communication creating the culture and the argument which defends that culture is constructed through texts with the theoretical approaches of the discipline of cultural studies has developed on a theoretical basis in parallel with the argument that “communication is culture, culture is communication” defined by the discipline of intercultural communication while interpreting the relationship between communication and culture. As a means of communication, language assumes the role of the treasure, memory and transmitter of the culture through texts. The analysis of language, communication and culture through literary texts in a historical / social context offers the opportunity to research, question and understand cultural forms/practices that can transform the social/cultural structure, which is the aim of text-based research of cultural studies. This study aims to question the literary works by addressing them as narrative forms that convey the cultural meaning constructed by the relationship between language, communication and culture in texts. This study considers literary works as narrative forms that convey the cultural meaning constructed with the relation of language, communication and culture in texts and aims to question the content of literary works with this acceptance. For the theoretical inquiry on the textuality of culture and communication, the literature review method was used.
