Qonaxa Stenbolê di Edebiyata Kurdî ya Modern de
Abstract
The modern Kurdish literature was born in the beginning of the 20th century in the cities. Apart from a few, these cities are all outside the realm of Kurdistan. In this century, especially due to the policies of centralization conducted by the Ottoman State, the authority of the local Kurdish aristocracies was eliminated and the formation of an urban locale which would serve as a center of power along with intellectual, literary and political attractions was frustrated. Instead of this, Istanbul which was a colonial and cosmopolitan capital came to the fore. Istanbul, therefore, became a scene of activity for the Kurdish intellectuals and authors and served as the crib for the beginning of the Kurdish literature and its new genres.
