ABSTRACT In this study, the possible contributions and the availability of modal etudes and exercises in violoncello courses given in musical education departments at faculties of education were investigated. During the study, the improvements in and the differences between the performance levels of the experiment group students who used modal etudes and exercises and the control group students who used tonal etudes and exercises were assessed. The working group of the study consisted of violoncello students enrolled in the Department of Music Education, Faculty of Education at Selçuk University. The experiment and control groups, composed of randomly selected students, were given applied training by the researcher for a period of ten weeks. The performance differences of the experiment and control groups were compared according to the pretest and posttest results. In addition, the experiment and control group students submitted their written opinions on the research. The collected data were analyzed by employing "Paired t-Test" and "Mann Whitney –U Test" through the SPSS (V10.0) software.

Bu ö?rencilerden rastgele seçilerek olu?turulan deney ve kontrol gruplary, ara?tyrmacy tarafyndan 10 haftalyk süre boyunca uygulamaly olarak çaly?tyrylmy?tyr.
