Abstract

Çağaptay’ın kitabı [Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun İlk Başkenti: Bursa’nın Dini, Mimari ve Sosyal Tarihi] Bursa’yı ele alan önemli bir çalışma. Çağaptay’ın yıllar sürenkatmanlıaraştırmalarınınürünüolanve“VisualizingtheCulturalTransition in Bithynia (1300–1402): Architecture, Landscape and Urbanism” başlıklı doktora araştırması üzerine inşa edilen kitap, Bizans’ın Bitinya bölgesindeki önemli ticaret ve kaplıca/spa merkezi Prousa’nın, 14. yüzyıl zarfındaki dönüşümünü ve Bursa’nın bir Osmanlı ve İslâm kenti olarak ortaya çıkışını ele alıyor. Erken Osmanlı dönemi
olarak bilinen 1326–1402 yılları arasına yoğunlaşan kitap, Bizans sosyal, kültü- rel ve mimari dünyasının Osmanlı egemenliği altında nasıl yeniden şekillendiğini, özellikle mimari ve kent bağlamında ne gibi çapraz etkileşimlerin ortaya çıktığını farklı ölçeklerde eserler ve farklı dönemlerden örnekler üzerinden tartışıyor.
