Abstract

The Holy persons (saints), who have an important place for Byzantine Art and Christianity, have been kept alive in depictions, religious buildings, temples and churches in Anatolia and Europe since early times. The fact that the information about the lives of these saints/saints, who are described as God's representatives on earth and their servants, is incomplete and few in the Turkish literature has been influential in recent studies in this field. Although there are studies on doctor saints, reaching very little data about the three female saints mentioned in this study is an important shortcoming for those who work in Byzantine medicine and saint lives. With this study, data on the lives of doctor saints were compiled and new information was brought to the literature by evaluating their lives, lifestyles and the location of their graves. The study was supported with new records and finds, and a suggestion was made about the school where the saints were educated. It has been tried to determine the place of the saints in the Christian world by discussing the accuracy of some claims. Although the data on the three saints, who are considered to be the "Mothers of Medicine", are scarce, it is considered worthy to be researched and introduced with their leading figures, exemplary experiences and aspects. Knowing the places where the saints lived in the Anatolian geography and their traces by the Christian communities will contribute both to the continuation of the cults of the saints and to faith tourism.

Erken Dönem Hristiyanlığın İlk Doktor Azizeleri: Zenais, Philonella, Hermoine

Abstract

Bizans Sanatı ve Hristiyanlık için önemli bir yere sahip olan kutsal kişiler (aziz,azize) erken dönemlerden itibaren Anadolu ve Avrupa coğrafyasında tasvirlerde, dinî yapılarda, tapınak ve kiliselerde yaşatılmaya devam etmektedir. Tanrı’nın yeryüzündeki temsilcileri, hizmetkârları olarak nitelendirilen bu aziz/azizelerin yaşamları ile ilgili bilgilerin Türkçe literatürde eksik ve az sayıda kaynakta bulunması, son zamanlarda bu alanda çalışmalar yapılmasında etkili olmuştur. Doktor azizler üzerine yapılmış çalışmalar mevcut olmakla birlikte, bu çalışmada bahsedilen üç kadın azize hakkında çok az veriye ulaşılması, Bizans tıbbı ve aziz hayatları çalışanlar için önemli bir eksikliktir. Bu çalışma ile, doktor azizelerin yaşamlarına dair veriler derlenerek hayatları, yaşayışları ve mezarlarının yeri ile ilgili tespitler değerlendirilerek literatüre yeni bilgiler kazandırılmıştır. Yeni kayıtlar ve buluntularla çalışma desteklenmiş, azizelerin eğitim aldıkları okul hakkında da bir öneri sunulmuştur. Bazı iddiaların doğruluğu üzerine tartışılarak azizelerin Hristiyan dünyasındaki yeri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. ‘‘Tıbbın Anneleri’’ olarak kabul edilen üç azize ile ilgili veriler az olsa da önde gelen kişiler olmaları, örnek yaşantı ve yönleriyle araştırılmaya ve tanıtılmaya değer görülmektedir. Azizelerin, Anadolu coğrafyasında yaşadığı yerlerin ve onlara ait izlerin Hristiyan topluluklar tarafından bilinmesi, hem azizelerin kültlerinin devam ettirilmesine hem de inanç turizmine katkı sağlayacaktır.
