Hagios Georgios Church is located in the Maden district of Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya province. While the region has been known as "Gümüş" since the 17th century, it is also referred to as "Kioumoús Matén" in Greek sources. It is known that the building was built by the Greeks, most of whom were miners, who migrated to the region later on. While the building was used as a church until the population exchange period, it remained idle for a few years after the Greeks left the region, and then it was converted into a mosque and continued to be used until today.
